Following her marriage the actress is now known by the name Nikki Kodjoe. As a child within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always intrigued by acting. In a Maryland high school contest at the beginning of her education she received the award for the best actress. She earned her acting degree at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' and in theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her debut major role. There followed films like 'Boogie Nights Spark & Blue Streak. She was praised for her performance on Soul Food. Her appearances also appeared in TV shows such as Second Time Around" and Empire. Contractor was born in Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria through the age of seven. She'd been exposed to many different travels and other cultures since a early age. After attending boarding schools during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada where she lived for the majority of her childhood as well as her early years of adulthood. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. She was also a star academically. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school where she was able to study not just dance but also theater. At the age of 16 after a decade of years of dancing Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. Upon graduating from high school she received a full-time scholarship to at the University of Toronto, where she pursued a masters in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the play Pericles at the world-class, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the role of lead. After 92 performances, she received positive reviews. This play was named one of the most successful productions in Canada by reviewers. She accepted the invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory. It is a place that allows only four males and eight women are able to take a 20 weeks crash course of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured in the next season of shows, and she landed Hermia's part in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
